Leila Lopes, the current Miss Universe and Goodwill Ambassador of the United Nations is set to visit Cote d’Ivoire, Kenya, Senegal, Togo Nigeria and Ghana as part of her AID awareness tour.
She will stop by Ghana on June 9 where she will visit a SOS Children’s Village to raise awareness on HIV, as part of her UN’s duty:
“ I know Africa was recently commended for making impressive strides towards achieving the United Nations Millennium Development Goals by 2015. However, much more needs to be done to lift millions of Africans out of poverty and in educating our people about the dangers of HIV and AIDS”.
The Beauty Queen also added: ” I see the tour as an opportunity to celebrate African achievements, which are often understated.”
In Nigeria, Miss Lopes is scheduled to visit the SOS Children’s Village International and the SOS Family Care Centre.
Miss Universe also serves as the ambassador for Arid Regions for the United Nations Convention and she has paid a visit to her native Angola earlier this year.
